Volunteer Art Instructor

The Volunteer Instructor is responsible for leading and coordinating group art classes appropriate for the older adult population or individuals with disabilities. This can include but is not limited to drawing, painting, crocheting, singing, music, and mixed media. The Volunteer may also teach art history with approval by Member Services Specialist and Manager. The Volunteer Instructor must demonstrate a commitment to serving WISE & Healthy Aging clients/members and to upholding our mission to advance the dignity and quality of life of older adults through leadership, advocacy, and high-quality, innovative services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Engage members in a fun, collaborative and participatory manger to explore the arts.
• Be prepared for classes before the start time, organize members for class and assist them in participating.
• Give instruction in the use of materials and care for artwork.
• Help members become proficient in one art media like watercolor painting or drawing.
• Set up equipment to be used for each session, ensure supplies are stored appropriately and request materials from Member Services Specialist as needed.
• Ensure all equipment is properly used, cleaned, maintained by members and that the art space is cleaned after every session.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• Minimum of High School Diploma. Additional qualifications are a plus.

Experience
• At least one year relevant work or volunteer experience in a fast-paced environment with prior experience working with older adults, other at-risk populations and/or volunteer groups.

Other
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in English (oral and written).
• Knowledgeable in one or more art specialty area.
• Previous experience teaching or background in art learning/education.
• Successful clearance of a criminal background check.
• Fingerprints must be submitted during onboarding and pass criminal clearance checks.
• Position may require being on one’s feet, bending, and moving around frequently over the course of the 4-hour work shift; ability to move and lift 25 pounds

WORK ENVIORNMENT
This volunteer position is housed in the corporate office of WISE & Healthy Aging located in Santa Monica, California or the WISE & Healthy Aging office located in Baldwin Hills, California.
