SoCal MFA Group Exhibition 2024

SoCal MFA which features MFA students from programs across Southern California. 

SoCal MFA provides a platform for emerging graduate student artists to exhibit contemporary fine artwork that tackle current themes and subjects alongside their peers All mediums are encouraged. Including but not limited to painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, glass, fiber, functional, mix-media, digital media, sound/video, performance, sculpture, installation, new genres, etc. 

As a reminder, entry is for Southern California MFA Studio Art Students currently enrolled (Spring 2024) and/or recent MFA graduates (Fall 2023 semester) with a California address. This year there will be no entry fee so we encourage all students to apply.

Applications will be open March 20th and close May 1st.  

SoCal MFA will be hosted at The Peggy Phelps and East Gallery on the CGU campus. With a tentative date being the first week of June

2024 Summer Studio Technical Assistant Positions Available

The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a rigorous, pre-professional, month-long training program in the visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation and film for talented artists of high school age. CSSSA provides a supportive environment in which students hone acquired skills and explore new techniques and ideas for an intense and exciting learning experience. The school was created by the California Legislature, and held its first session in 1987. Its purpose is to provide a training ground for future artists who wish to pursue careers in the arts and entertainment industries in California. The California State Summer School for the Arts is a state agency funded through a unique public-private partnership.

International Open Call Towards BIENALSUR 2025

The General and Artistic Direction of BIENALSUR, organized by the “Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF)”, a public university in Argentina, invites artists and curators of any nationality to submit artistic and/or curatorial projects. The projects selected in this call will be part of the fifth edition to be held in 2025 in various venues, museums, cultural centres, universities and non-traditional spaces in large cities and small towns in different countries.

Skydance Media is looking for motivated and enthusiastic Summer Graphic Design interns for our Santa Monica office!

With openings in our Digital Marketing department, our Internship Program offers its own unique learning opportunities. This is a hands-on role, where you will create marketing content that will be used for our social media marketing campaigns. You will have the chance to network and meet with Skydance leaders, learn transferable skills, and gain real-world experience. It is an experience ideal for an aspiring Graphic Designer moving from classroom to the industry.

This is a ten-week long paid, full-time internship. You must be able to work 9:00 AM-6:00 PM for the duration of this internship program.

Grant Opportunity for Student Artists

DBSA (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance) City of Angels chapter is a nonprofit organization that focuses on mental health. 

We’re putting on an art show in May to raise awareness for mental health, and we are awarding $1000 grants to ten artists to exhibit in the show. Funding for these grants is provided by the California Mental Health Service Authority and the LA County Dept. of Mental Health.

We are specifically looking for 2D artists (painters, illustrators, photographers, digital artists, etc.) whose life or work has been impacted by mental health challenges. They must live, work, or attend school in Los Angeles County to be eligible.

The deadline for submission is April 15.

PSAid Contest Deadline Reminder

We are quickly approaching the deadline for the 2024 U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) public service announcement (PSAid) contest. The due date for submissions is next Monday, March 18 at midnight PT.   

The PSAid contest challenges college students to produce PSAs that creatively articulate why “Cash is Best” when helping people affected by emergencies and disasters overseas. The PSAID website has contest rules and guidelines as well as past winning PSAs, and a video that can be watched for additional information. You can find a one-pager with additional details here.

Sundance Lab / Telluride Filmmaker Seeking StoryBoard Artist

Filmmaker seeks talented Artist to help with Thumbnails / Storyboards for debut feature film.

The project went through the Sundance Producers Lab and is based on a short film that also played at the Telluride Film Festival.
