SAN 2025 Temporary Exhibition

Thursday, May 23rd, 2024

San Diego International Airport’s Arts Program invites artists, curators, and cultural, community, or educational organizations working in all media to submit proposals for the 2025 temporary exhibition, Mirror Mirror. The exhibition is inspired by Southern California artists whose use of the natural environment and unique materials brought or developed by the region’s innovative industries led to contributions in artistic movements such as Light and Space. Mirror Mirror aims to showcase the contemporary resonance of perspective, materiality, light, and color, highlighting themes such as reflection and translucence. Selected artwork and collections representing the theme will be displayed throughout the airport for up to one year beginning in January 2025. Up to twenty participating artists and/or organizations will be chosen for the exhibition, each will receive a stipend of $1,250. Submissions of existing, in-process and/or new work are welcome. San Diego and Tijuana-based artists are strongly encouraged to apply.

To learn more about the theme and for complete guidelines, review the call for artists by clicking on the link here.

An online information session will be held on Thursday, June 13, 5 p.m. PDT to answer any questions for interested submitters. The link to that meeting can be accessed here.

Proposals are due Sunday, June 30, 2024, 11:59 p.m. PDT.

Seeking Collaborators for Film

Thursday, May 23rd, 2024

Dear Art Students and Alumni,

My name is Mariela Morales, and I am a first-year Film MFA student working on my first-year film. I am looking forward to collaborating with art students who want to gain experience in film set design, costume design, and art direction.

I am specifically seeking individuals interested in helping me draw paper bag masks, build a tiny house similar to the attached picture, and create a backdrop inspired by “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.” You don’t have to do all of these tasks; there are multiple roles available, and you can choose whichever project speaks to you creatively.

In compensation, I will provide IMDB credit, meals during the shoot and prep days, a copy of the footage, and I will cover all production costs. This is a great opportunity for students to build their portfolios and connect with peers in the film program for future collaborations!

I will be shooting my project on June 1st and June 2nd and can start working with volunteers as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Mariela Morales

You will be joining a great team of film students and theater design students. If you are interested please contact me:
