Job Opportunity: Someone-in-Residence at Everyday Robots

Tuesday, May 31st, 2022

The Role

Many teams speak about the importance of diversity of thought. At Everyday Robots, we live it. Our Someone-in-Residence program embeds artists, creators, social scientists and others across the team to expand and challenge our thinking, and provides you with a unique opportunity to work, co-create, and learn alongside some of the world’s leading roboticists.

Think of it like an Artist-in-Residence, but more expansive. A co-creator to help us build robots in novel, thoughtful and inclusive ways – you might be an Artist. You also might be a Filmmaker. Or a Product Inclusion expert.

Find out more about us, and meet the people behind the robots on our website, such as our current Someone-in-Residence, dancer and roboticist Catie Cuan. Catie is developing performances to challenge the way we think about human-robot interaction through the emerging field of choreorobotics (read more about her work in the Scientific American!)

What you can expect

  • Drive thinking and content that will help to shape the future of robotics, in partnership with members of the team.
  • Create content (internal and potentially external) in partnership with members of the team
  • Learn and hear from AI leaders from across Alphabet, Google, DeepMind, and externally from organizations and top academic institutions.
  • To co-develop an independent, self-guided creative project alongside collaborators at Everyday Robots
  • An environment dedicated to push robotics forward at our HQ at in Mountain View

What we’re looking for

  • Artists, creators, and social scientists who can challenge and re-imagine the ways in which we approach our robots, and help us tell our story in new ways
  • At least a six-month commitment (with built-in flexibility to extend as necessary, or to carry out the Residency part-time if you’re a student)

Bonus qualities

  • Experience and curiosity about working in the fields of AI and/or robotics
  • A background in one of our priority areas: filmmaking, sci fi, podcasting, or product inclusion, or responsible innovation

How to apply

  • If this sounds like a good fit, please submit a resume and a response to one of the following two briefs (using any medium you like):
    • Write a job description for your dream residency setting out the problem you want to solve in robotics, in partnership with the team at Everyday Robots (400 word limit).
    • Produce a storyboard for a viral video that creates a strong community following for Everyday Robots.

At Everyday Robots, we don’t just accept difference – we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.

If you require additional accommodations during the interview process, please let us know.

Uprise Art: Open Call for Artists

Founded by Tze Chun in 2011, Uprise Art has championed emerging artists and made their work more accessible to collectors through online and offline programming. By submitting to our open call your work will be considered for:

– Being presented and featured in Uprise Art’s online gallery (www.upriseart.com)
– Digital exhibitions
– Physical exhibitions at our gallery in NYC, or partner galleries through collaborations
– Art Fairs
– Other special project opportunities

At the forefront of our programing is the desire to present art in a range of environments both digital and physical, to better connect with collectors and broaden our artists’ audience. Our in-house advisory team works with a range of clients from individual collectors to institutional and corporate collections.

Our Curatorial Team reviews all submissions on a rolling basis, and will reach out if interested in discussing potential opportunities. Due to the high volume of submissions we are unable to respond to every artist, but rest assured all materials are reviewed.
