LA Hacks Organizing Team Recruitment

Hello Bruins!

Are you interested in planning the largest hackathon in Southern California and being a part of an amazing family?

LA Hacks is an annual hackathon run during a weekend in spring quarter (this year’s is slated for April 21-23). We recruit organizers in the fall to help coordinate this 1,000 person event in Pauley Pavilion that brings curious developers and students from around the world together. With a budget of $150,000, we anticipate being bigger and better than ever before for our 11th iteration. If you’re at all interested in creating an event dedicated to providing people with a new community and opportunities for learning, mentorship, and growth, please don’t hesitate to apply!

Description

EAOP is designed to help students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for college admission. Under the direct supervision of, and with training from, full time EAOP staff, Bruin Advisors work at assigned school sites located in East LA, South LA, West LA, or Pasadena (list of schools we service). Bruin Advisors will be required to learn and know college admission requirements, financial aid resources, and how to advise high school students. Responsibilities include 9-12th grade academic advising, financial aid application assistance, UC/CSU/CC/Private college application support, public speaking, and more. 

Qualifications 

Must have reliable transportation. Work study is preferred, but not a requirement. Must be able to work some Saturday events and evenings. Applicants must have interpersonal skills necessary to work with students in grades 9-12, counselors, school administrators, and parents. Experience in working with a diverse population is preferred. Hired applicants must pass a criminal background check and TB test, as well as comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. Flexible class schedule needed. Must be available a minimum of 1-2 days per week (M-F) between the hours of 8am-3pm.

UCLA BruinCorps

UCLA BruinCorps is a tutoring outreach program that hires work-study students to provide tutoring across the greater Los Angeles area in elementary, middle schools and high schools. Our tutors provide in-class or after school tutoring in English/Language Arts or Math in one-on-one or small group settings.  Our mission is to not only give back to the Los Angeles community, but also to foster a sense of commitment to community service and provide civic engagement and leadership opportunities for UCLA undergraduate students. Through service and professional development opportunities, UCLA BruinCorps develops student leaders on campus. 

UCLA BruinCorps is the largest work-study program on campus, hiring over 100 work-study students annually. We are currently recruiting work-study students from a variety of fields for the 2022-2023 academic year. Attached is our program flyer, program FAQ and link tree to provide further information to interested students.  This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to develop leadership skills, give back to the greater Los Angeles community and build a sense of community on campus. The final application deadline is Friday, September 9th. Thank you for sharing this job opportunity with your student roster.
