Introduction:

UCLA is committed to providing students with a learning environment and curriculum that engages them with the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for future success. With this in mind, UCLA is implementing a new LMS based on Canvas that will:

  • Create a solution for faculty and students that prioritizes pedagogical and academic needs, elevating the teaching and learning experience
  • Provide an equitable, consistent and engaging academic experience, cultivating a community of collaboration and promoting a culture of continuous innovation.

Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by learning institutions, educators, and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement. Canvas includes a variety of customizable course creation and management tools, course and user analytics and statistics, and internal communication tools.

The transition is underway and will go live for most of the campus in Winter ‘22.

As a part of our UCLA Learning Management System Transformation Program, Graduate Teaching & Learning Assistants (GTLAs) will receive in-depth training on the new LMS Platform being built on Canvas, assist with development and configuration of online courses and provide instructional and technology support to faculty—as well as students upon go-live.

GTLAs will be integral members of the Learning Management System program team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to enable a world-class, integrated teaching and learning experience for faculty and students that sets the standard for teaching excellence, academic achievement, and inclusivity.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate with and work effectively with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of technical experience; the ability to work independently in a time-sensitive work environment; and the ability to learn and work with specialized programs to directly shape and refine course content.
