Introduction:

UCLA is committed to providing students with a learning environment and curriculum that engages them with the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for future success. With this in mind, UCLA is implementing a new LMS based on Canvas that will:

  • Create a solution for faculty and students that prioritizes pedagogical and academic needs, elevating the teaching and learning experience
  • Provide an equitable, consistent and engaging academic experience, cultivating a community of collaboration and promoting a culture of continuous innovation.

Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by learning institutions, educators, and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement. Canvas includes a variety of customizable course creation and management tools, course and user analytics and statistics, and internal communication tools.

The transition is underway and will go live for most of the campus in Winter ‘22.

As a part of our UCLA Learning Management System Transformation Program, Course Migration QA/ Testers will receive in-depth training on the new LMS Platform being built on Canvas and perform

Course Migration QA/ Testers will be integral members of the Learning Management System program team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to enable a world-class, integrated teaching and learning experience for faculty and students that sets the standard for teaching excellence, academic achievement, and inclusivity.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate with and work effectively with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of technical experience; the ability to work independently in a time-sensitive work environment; and the ability to learn and work with specialized programs to directly shape and refine course content.

What do Course Migration QA/ Testers do?

Quality assurance of courses migrated from UCLA’s legacy system Moodle to Canvas. Utilizing tools such as rubrics and guidelines to evaluate course accessibility, compliance with migration programming, and overall course functionality review.

  • Review and evaluate courses that have been migrated from Moodle to Canvas LMS
  • Ensure course compliance with migration protocols and standards
  • Identify gaps in course functionality and accessibility
  • Complete documentation to support QA findings and recommended next steps

Compensation:

The LMS Transformation program offers a 12-month appointment of 25-50%. Some options for full time work may be available in the Summer.

Candidates:

The program is looking for students across all disciplines, especially those who have experience teaching undergraduates as well as online teaching and learning tools. Position is fully remote during summer and potentially hybrid throughout the academic year.

Required Qualifications:

  • An interest in learning new technology skills and applying them in service of teaching and learning at UCLA.
  • Eligible to work 25-50%.
  • Current full-time enrollment in UCLA degree program, in good standing and eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Possess the verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization; ability to use standard English grammar and punctuation.
  • Skill and experience to effectively utilize common office productivity software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Outlook, and internet browsers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Availability for 12-months (Summer- Fall-Winter-Spring)
  • Experience in software quality assurance.
  • Experience with e-Learning technology platforms and learning management systems.
  • Experience with team collaboration/communication tools such as Box, Google Drive, Slack
  • Experience with instructional support of online course support material (synchronous, asynchronous).
  • Degree or coursework in Instructional Design, Education or related field and/or interest or experience in teaching and pedagogy within your fields of study.
