SEEKING: Studio Assistant
Interdisciplinary artist seeking a part-time Sculpture Assistant beginning March 1, 2021.
The ideal candidate for this position is an extremely organized, detail-oriented fabrication wizard and will be expected to assist in the fabrication of large-scale sculptures and installations. Advanced knowledge of 3D software (eg. AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, etc.) is a must. Exceptional candidates have at least two years of experience working in an artist studio or similar environment.
This is an opportunity to collaborate and learn while contributing to the growth of an interdisciplinary creative studio spanning the fields of film, sculpture, architecture, writing, sound, and performance. Candidates with demonstrated experience in the aforementioned fields are encouraged to apply.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Pigment, concrete, plaster mixing and sculpting
- Building structurally sound medium to large-scale sculpture
- Basic understanding of low-power electronics
- Metal fabrication (MIG and TIG welding)
- Expertise in power tool use (drill, circular and jig saw, grinder, chop saw, tablesaw)
- Packing artwork (building custom crates and cardboard boxes for shipping)
JOB REQUIREMENTS & TASKS
- Assist in the fabrication of sculptural studio work
- Design digital and physical maquettes of sculptures and installations
- Clean and maintain a functional studio space
- Coordinate and perform general studio maintenance
- When needed, oversee contractors for studio updates and build outs
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
- Order and pick up studio supplies and materials (reliable transportation required)
- Perform detailing of sculptural work
- When needed, move and reorganize studio
- Research production processes
- Work with Studio Manager to source and cultivate relationships with vendors and third-party fabricators
- Conduct in-depth materials research including performing materials tests in-studio

Position starts at 20 to 40 hours of work per month with the possibility of increased hours after an initial 90-day period of employment. Pay rate is $22/hr.
