JOB DESCRIPTION: The UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) and the UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies is seeking a dynamic student assistant. You will assist in various administrative duties and organizational tasks such as: managing electronic files, maintaining spreadsheets and databases, marketing events, updating calendars and websites, scheduling meetings, and maintaining office space, and other related duties as required. Position also includes occasional opportunities in research, managing events, accounting, IT, WordPress, database management. This position is in two research centers that focus on transportation, environment, economic development, and housing issues.. Hours are flexible, but dependability is a must. Position can begin immediately.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and dependability are a MUST. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Demonstrated ability in working with Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Calendar, MS Word, Excel. Willingness to learn new systems and software programs. Good communication skills to interact with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to represent the Lewis Center/ITS in making calls and sending emails to professional contacts and event vendors. Administrative experience preferred but not required.

This position is a good opportunity to develop hands-on experience in design, marketing, branding, and PR. You will design web pages, brochures, logos, signs, reports, briefs, annual reports, social media graphics, and other communication materials. This position is in two research centers that focus on transportation, the environment, economic development, and housing.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: High creativity and excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and dependability are a MUST. Ability to follow instructions and work independently, and quickly produce pieces for time-strapped projects. Demonstrated ability in working with Adobe Creative Suite, in particular InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Experience with animation and videos a plus. Good communication skills to interact with faculty, staff, and students.

GRAPHITE Journal call for entries

GRAPHITE Interdisciplinary Arts Journal is seeking visual art, creative writing, critical essays, recipes and experimental formats in response to the theme “ATTENTION/¡Atención!” for Issue 12, Spring 2021. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis until January 18, 2021.

 

GRAPHITE invites works that use attention as an artistic, spiritual and/or political strategy, or that consider the ways that the concepts of ‘ATTENTION/¡Atención!’ operate historically and/or in the present moment. We are specifically interested in submissions which center anti-imperialist, anti-racist, intersectional and indigenous lived experience and/or research. We encourage emerging and/or student artists to apply. Submissions in English or Spanish are welcome. Send your submission(s) to graphitejournal@hammer.ucla.edu, with a subject line that starts with the word SUBMISSION and goes on to clearly indicate the submission type (artwork, essay, interview, or review, for example) as well as your subject and word count. Submissions must include the following: artist contact info and address,high-res images (above 300DPI) and/or completed essays, and a short artist bio (2-3 sentences).

The Revival Zine is Accepting Applications

What is the Witch Institute?

In the last few years, the witch has re-emerged as a powerful political symbol. Across cinemas and television, in books and podcasts, and via hashtag activism, the proliferation of the witch in media signals a critique of the existing world order and its reliance on the subjugation of marginalized peoples. In order to better understand the meaning and impact of current media representations of the witch, we will hold an expanded conversation between activists, artists, filmmakers, curators, historians, scholars, witches, feminists, healers, and more.

Grant Opportunity with Hudson Pacific Properties and Macerich

Wednesday, January 6th, 2021

Hudson Pacific Properties and Macerich will fast-track more than $650,000 to local artists impacted by COVID-19 through the Vibrant Cities Arts Grant. The funds are associated with the One Westside project, a joint venture between Hudson Pacific and Macerich, which is converting the former Westside Pavilion mall into Google’s newest Los Angeles campus.

Applications will be accepted beginning January 4, 2021 at 9am PST and will continue to be accepted until funds are exhausted. One of the program’s goals is to quickly process applications to expedite essential funds to artists and arts organizations in need.
