Friday, August 23rd, 2019The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the Division of Ceramic Art at the rank of assistant or associate professor with an emphasis in ceramic art, sculpture.The Division of Ceramic Art, within the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, has a distinguished history as a premier institution for education in the arts and fosters a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary environment for research and practice. The Division of Ceramic Art is comprised of six full time faculty, a teaching fellowship, a rotating international chair, and three full time technicians. The scope of the Division of Ceramic Art is wide-ranging, embracing history and innovation, tradition and emerging forms of visual art. The material intensive curriculum develops skill and intellect through theory, technological research and creative practice. Undergraduate and graduate programs are strongly intertwined. Requirements:
The Division of Ceramic Art seeks a dynamic artist who will participate in shaping the future of ceramic art at Alfred. We are seeking applicants immersed in one or any combination of genres; ceramic sculpture, sculpture and/or installation, design, performance, or forms at the intersection of all these. While the applicant’s relationship to material specificity or plurality may be open and variable, interested candidates should possess a strong background in ceramic methodology with an ability to speak to contemporary practice across genres. Additionally, we encourage applications from studio artists with any of the following competencies or interests: craft/art/cultural theory; glaze chemistry/material science; digital methodologies/technologies; program conceptualizing and building. A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and teaching is expected. We invite applicants from across the globe.
Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design or its equivalent.
Experience:
The successful candidate will have an active exhibition record and established recognition in the field; three years teaching experience or equivalent is required; salary will be commensurate with experience.

Mellon Gateway Postdoctoral Fellow in Visual Art – Brown University
Friday, January 11th, 2019Brown University’s Department of Visual Art wants to offer a special opportunity to a young or emerging artist in the field of Sculpture and Social Practice. This position is made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation. The purpose of this grant is to increase opportunities for young or emerging artists from Historically Underrepresented Groups, or artists whose work deals with issues important to Historically Underrepresented Groups.
The chosen candidate will be given significant financial support for two years to build their careers, with minimal teaching (one course per year), and then after two years will start in an Assistant Professor Tenure Track position in the Visual Art Department, teaching both foundational and upper-level courses to undergraduate students.

An MFA or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist who is dedicated to teaching undergraduate and graduate ceramics and is well versed in the practice and theory of traditional and contemporary methodologies in ceramics. Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of approaches to working in ceramics is required and experience with contemporary technologies related to ceramics such as 3-D modeling and printing is desirable.
