Assistant Professor in Sculpture – Rutgers University

The Department of Art & Design of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sculpture. The position will begin in September 2019. Candidates must be proficient in a broad range of sculptural processes and techniques. This search also welcomes candidates with an interdisciplinary practice that might include, for example, performance and installation. Housed within a public university, the department is committed to diversifying its faculty and encourages applications that reflect our diverse student body.

The candidate should be active in their field with a significant record of professional achievement, a broad knowledge of contemporary art, and be ready to engage with the opportunities for collaboration within a large, diverse, public research university.
The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching, the ability to fully participate in an interdisciplinary arts environment, and the potential for academic leadership.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate studio and seminar classes at all levels; developing the sculpture curriculum; assisting in student recruitment; mentoring graduate assistants; serving on departmental and university committees; maintaining their own professional artistic activity and/or scholarly research; overseeing Sculpture Tech and Monitors as well as sculpture facility and equipment.

The Department of Art & Design fosters and integrates a dynamic range of studio art and design practices. The Sculpture area offers a full complement of sculpture studies at graduate and undergraduate level supported by facilities for wood, plaster, metal, ceramics, metal foundry, mold making etc. Digital facilities are available within the University’s well-equipped maker spaces.
