Assistant Professor in Ceramics – University of Alabama

The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Ceramics, beginning fall semester 2019. An MFA or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist who is dedicated to teaching undergraduate and graduate ceramics and is well versed in the practice and theory of traditional and contemporary methodologies in ceramics. Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of approaches to working in ceramics is required and experience with contemporary technologies related to ceramics such as 3-D modeling and printing is desirable. Candidates must be active in the production and exhibition of work in the area of ceramics and must show a dynamic engagement in contemporary fine art discourse and practice.

Expected Starting Date: 08/16/2019

An MFA or equivalent is required.
At least two years of post-graduate teaching experience is required.
• Teach all levels of ceramics, beginning to graduate
• Establish an active program of personal research and exhibitions
• Run the day-to-day operations and administration of ceramics facilities
• Participate in student advising and service in the department, college, and university, and maintain a practice of responsible academic citizenship
• Serve as advisor to ceramics club
• Work with community constituencies and local arts organizations
