LACMA Corporate & Foundation Partnerships Spring Internship

The Corporate & Foundation Partnerships Team accepts applications for interns on an ongoing basis following the academic calendar.

Description 

The Partnerships Team works with major corporations and foundations to raise critical funds for the museum’s key functions including; exhibitions, collection conservation, educational programs (such as music, film and technology), special projects, and annual events. The Partnerships intern will gain first-hand experience in each step of the development process from prospecting to cultivation and solicitation, all the way through to fulfillment of foundation grants and corporate sponsorships. The intern will also have the unique opportunity to experience LACMA’s Corporate Partners Evening and other special events.

Minimum Qualifications

This non-compensatory, part-time internship is appropriate for upper division students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies, graduate school, or recent graduates with experience in communications, art history, business development, or marketing, and are interested in learning about non-profit arts development, specifically in a museum setting. Experience with a database management system such as Raiser’s Edge is preferred but not required. Academic credit can be arranged.

Interns will gain knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Learn how to create pitch materials for exhibitions, programs, and events
  • Learn how to create grant proposals and wrap reports
  • Understand the process of how to identify new foundation donors and corporate sponsors through research and effective solicitation strategies
  • Learn how to process gifts and draft acknowledgment letters
  • Learn how to create content for donor publications and general communications outreach
  • Learn how to update and maintain donor information in a database and files
  • Attend curator talks and Development meetings to learn about LACMA’s mission, collection and organizational system
  • Attend special events
