CALL FOR ENTRY! 2018 Southern California MFA Juried Exhibition

Claremont Graduate University and The Millard Sheets Art Center would like to extend an invitation to apply to the 2018 Southern California MFA Juried Exhibition.

This Exhibition will be held from March 24th- June 2nd, 2018 along with a fabulous opening reception

on March 25th.

The newly remodeled gallery has more than 7,000 square feet of indoor space, with an elegant opening reception area, and ability to display a wide variety of artistic disciplines. Southern California MFA Juried Exhibition is organized by CGU MFA students and is open for all current Southern California MFA Studio Art students. We are excited to announce Howard N. Fox as the 2018 guest juror. He was a curator of contemporary art at Los Angeles County Museum  of Art (LACMA) from 1985 through 2008 and is guest curator for LACMA’s current PST LA/LA exhibition Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz. SoCalMFA is a great opportunity for emerging artists to gain experience and network in the Southern California Art community.

2018 Guest Juror: Howard N. Fox

Independent curator Howard N. Fox was Curator of Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1985 through 2008, where he organized numerous major exhibitions and authored their catalogues, including Avant-Garde in the Eighties (1987), A Primal Spirit: Ten Contemporary Japanese Sculptors (1990), Lari Pittman (1996), and Eleanor Antin (1999). Often focusing on issues of content and meaning in contemporary art, Fox has published widely, and authored a principal essay for the catalogue accompanying the 2006 exhibition Los Angeles 1955-1985: Birth of an Art Capital, organized by the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. From 2000 to 2004 Fox was on the faculty of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) where he taught courses in modern and contemporary art history. He returns to LACMA as guest curator for the critically and popularly acclaimed survey exhibition Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz as part of Pacific Standard Time LA/LA.
