Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a one-year visiting position in the Department of Art at the rank of visiting assistant professor beginning July 2018.
The successful candidate will be
an artist for whom expanded sculpture serves as a major component of his/her artistic focus. This position requires competence in teaching a wide range of processes and concepts on introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. Knowledge of art history and current issues in contemporary art theory and criticism is expected. Knowledge of new media processes is desired. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of Kenyon College by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual and cultural conversations in studio art.
Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year on all levels possibly including one cross-media advanced seminar. Applicant must demonstrate strong teaching skills, with teaching experience at the college level expected. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the studio and equipment (for wood and metal fabrication), purchasing supplies, implementing and adhering to safety protocols, and supervising a student shop assistant. MFA and a high level of professional artistic activity required.
The studio section of the Art and Art History Department includes 6.0 FTE and is housed in a well-appointed new building, Horvitz Hall.
