A meaningful community-centered exhibition initiative at dnj Gallery

In 2024, dnj Gallery founder Pamela Schoenberg shifted the focus of the gallery from a traditional commercial space toward exhibiting artwork created by individuals living with chronic illness. The mission behind the program is not only to showcase artists and their work, but also to foster connection, conversation, and support for people navigating long-term illness.

Each exhibition is centered around a specific condition and includes a series of community events alongside the artwork — such as panel discussions, storytelling programs, film screenings, movement workshops, and music events — all intended to create awareness and meaningful dialogue. We also partner with organizations connected to each illness to help provide additional resources and community presence throughout the exhibitions.

Over the past year, exhibitions and programming have focused on communities affected by Parkinson’s disease, IBD (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis), Multiple Sclerosis, Cystic Fibrosis, and Epilepsy.
