The Academic Year Legal Access internship is a 9-month program placing undergraduate students at one of the courthouses across Los Angeles County. Our members support self-represented litigants (people who represent themselves in court usually because they cannot afford to hire an attorney) with routine court matters by providing basic legal information, helping them complete court forms, and offering assistance on court procedures. Interns must complete 300 hours of service over the course of the academic year, serving about 7-8 hours per week.
This is an incredibly unique, hands-on opportunity for students interested in a career in law, government, public service, psychology, language development, and so much more. As a Legal Access Intern, students become proficient in navigating legal systems and communicating with the public as they guide low-income individuals from diverse backgrounds through their family law cases, housing law matters, and restraining orders.
