Open Call for MFA Students: Group Show on the Current State of Politics in the United States

Exhibition Title: Politics of Perspective

As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, the political landscape is more charged than ever. We invite MFA students from greater Los Angeles to explore this dynamic through their art. We seek thought-provoking works that address the current state of politics, reflect on societal issues, and engage viewers in meaningful dialogue.

DUOS is the 1500 sq ft studio and screening room of Quinn Matthews, a current Photo and Media MFA student at the California Institute of the Arts. Politics of Perspective is the first exhibition with the intention of the shared space to encourage discourse and dialogue among the greater Los Angeles MFA programs through periodic programming over the next two years.

What We’re Looking For:

• Works that respond to themes such as democracy, activism, social justice, identity, and the impact of politics on daily life.
• Pieces that reflect on the electoral process, voter engagement, and the socio-political climate leading up to the election.
• All media welcome: painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, and mixed media.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Eligibility: Open to all MFA students currently enrolled in the greater Los Angeles Region.
2. Artwork Limit: Up to two pieces per artist.
3. Format: Please submit high-quality images of your work along with a brief artist statement (max. 500 words) explaining how your work relates to the exhibition.
4. Deadline for Submissions: October 18^th, 2024
5. Submission Method: Email submissions to quinnmatthews@students.calarts.edu with the subject line “Politics of Perspective Submission.”

Selection Process: A panel of students and professors will review all submissions. Selected artists will be notified by October 22^nd, 2024.

Exhibition Opening Reception: Join us for the opening reception on October 29^th, 2024 (6-10 pm) where artists will have the opportunity to discuss their work and engage with the community.
