Location: Los Angeles (headquarters) 2228 W. 7th Street, Los Angeles CA 90057 and South of France (final home and studios of Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning)
About Us: Chez Max et Dorothea is a new arts nonprofit dedicated to preserving the final home and studios of Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning in the South of France, alongside a headquarters in Los Angeles. Our mission is to honor the legacy of these renowned artists by maintaining their creative spaces and promoting their artistic contributions to the world and generating a dialogue between Surrealism and contemporary art through exhibitions, education, events, and residencies.
Position: Internship (Unpaid, with the possibility of stipend based on funding)
Duration: Flexible, minimum commitment of 3 months, with potential for extension
Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing and cataloging artworks, documents, and artifacts related to Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning and related exhibitions at the Los Angeles space.
- Learn the ins and outs of operating an arts nonprofit exhibition space
- Help with research projects related to the artists’ lives and work
- Support outreach and fundraising efforts of Chez Max et Dorothea
- Assist in planning and executing events, exhibitions, and fundraising programs
- Collaborate with our team to develop educational materials and programming
- Contribute to social media and website content creation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Passion for the arts, art history and a strong interest in Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning, contemporary art or Surrealism
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in French is a plus, but not required
