Apogee Graphics, a Los Angeles-based design and publishing company founded by artists Laura Owens and Asha Schechter, is seeking a part-time Associate Graphic Designer.
This is an in-person position for our office at the Westin Bonaventure in DTLA. The position is designed for a total of 24 hours spread across Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, though exact days & hours are negotiable. The beginning rate is $25/hour, with planned raises tied to performance.
The primary duties of the role will be:
- Layout & design for various publications
- Product development (including apparel, merchandise, posters & print), from early-stage mockups to final production files
- Collaborating with artists on limited-edition publications & products
- Working closely with printers on shepherding files to print
Ideal candidates have a degree in Graphic Design, at least 1 year of experience working in an art-related design role, have high proficiency in & professional experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop, as well as some familiarity with the Los Angeles art world.
Other beneficial traits include:
- Professional experience with typesetting & copy editing for books & magazines
- Professional experience with photo editing & retouching
- Familiarity with producing print-ready files for screen printing
- Being detail-oriented & organized
- The ability to come up with a diverse array of rough design options quickly
- Public relations & sales skills
- A unique aesthetic sensibility
- Knowledge of contemporary art history
- A love for art books
