Call for Submissions – see/saw

see/saw is an undergraduate print journal devoted to publishing original research in art history and art criticism. Founded at the University of California, Berkeley, our publication shares innovative critical work biannually to foster intellectual discussion among an international network of students. As art historians, we are committed to diversifying the field and developing intersectional critical analyses of the artistic canon. see/saw is especially open to considerations of art and artists that have been historically erased and underemphasized.

see/saw welcomes English-language submissions pertaining to all art historical genres and time periods from undergraduate students studying at any institution. To submit, please email your previously unpublished work as a .pdf to seesaw.ucb@gmail.com. Essays should be 1000-5000 words in length and formatted using Chicago style. In your email, please include high quality .jpegs of any artworks referenced along with the work’s title, artist, medium, and date (if possible). Once a work is accepted, our staff editors will provide feedback and collaborate with the authors prior to publication.

see/saw is additionally accepting original art submissions for our Spring 2024 issue. Please email us a high quality image of your previously unpublished artwork along with a short artist statement (250-500 words). All mediums are welcome!

Academic writing submissions are due February 29th at 11:59PM.

Original art submissions are due March 15th at 11:59PM.
