Experimental Music – Reading Group at UCLA

This is an announcement for the first meeting of a new reading group at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music entitled “Yes, but is this music “experimental”? and subtitled “Experimental Music: Community, Identity, and Ethos behind the “Empty” Category.” Participants are invited to discuss the fundamental questions about the North American tradition of experimental music.

The reading group is supervised by Robert Fink, Professor of Musicology at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, who’s to be assisted by me. The group will be meeting every 2nd Thursday starting Feb. 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at SMB 1354. Some meetings may take place virtually, over Zoom, which will be announced in advance. For more information about the schedule, agendas, and materials, see the page on  Facebook and/or Eventbrite.  A formal announcement on the UCLA website is to come.

If you are interested in joining, please sign up via this Google form. Leaving a response will take a few seconds and will help a lot to coordinate the initiative. Please feel the utmost welcome to reach out with questions. And of course, if you know people who may be interested to take part the discussion – spreading the word would be much appreciated.
