Speak Out for Surgery

Speak Out for Surgery

ABOUT

  • Speak Out for Surgery (SOS) is a student-led organization committed to advocating for equitable healthcare access. Our mission is twofold: first, to raise awareness about the pressing issue of healthcare disparities, shedding light on the barriers individuals face due to socio-economic and cultural factors, and second, to actively work towards bridging these gaps. As a club, we’ve evolved from our early days of connecting individuals and their families with vital medical, social, and legal resources in Los Angeles to a broader mission that includes educational workshops, awareness campaigns, and meaningful community partnerships. SOS welcomes individuals from all backgrounds who share our passion for creating a more equitable healthcare landscape.

MISSION

  • As part of our ongoing efforts to promote health equity, SOS engages in various initiatives, including:
  • Awareness and Education: We actively raise awareness about healthcare disparities, striving to foster a deeper understanding of the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals and communities. Through interviews, podcasts, and health fairs, we empower individuals with knowledge to drive positive change.
  • High School Health Curriculum: SOS is at the forefront of developing a comprehensive high school curriculum focused on health literacy. By equipping high school students with critical healthcare information, we encourage the next generation to make informed decisions about their well-being.
  • Community Outreach: Our commitment extends beyond the classroom. Through volunteer work and partnerships with community organizations, we work to address the social determinants of health. Our aim is to increase access to nutritious foods and create a supportive environment for individuals to thrive.
