ABOUT THE BLOC DTLA:
The Bloc is a vibrant, open-air urban center, a growing, inclusive community, a LEED™ certified Gold project, an inflection point in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Encompassing a full city block along LA’s iconic 7th Street corridor, The Bloc connects the financial, fashion, jewelry, and theater districts – and the 7th Street Metro Center Station, where four DTLA lines converge. Offering a diverse mix of thoughtfully curated shops, artisans, premier retailers including a Macy’s flagship store, restaurants, bars, open-air green space, and entertainment, The Bloc is also home to the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles Hotel, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and a 727,000 square-foot, creative-focused office tower. An array of events from live music, dance, and theater performances to art installations, fitness classes, and food and drink tastings welcomes Angelenos and visitors from all walks of life – and anyone seeking inspiration, community, and connection.
Our ask
We are asking talented artists to visit The Bloc and get the opportunity to turn ordinary recycling bins into works of art. The Bloc has 12 recycling bins throughout the property and to celebrate Earth Day we’d like to wrap each bin with art that you create! Artwork will be on display April 1, 2023 through April 30, 2023. We are asking for a digital file of your art so we may print it and wrap the bins with.
Guidelines for art on the recycling bins
• Relevant to Downtown Los Angeles / Earth Day.
• Creates a visual impact.
• Something guests will want to take a selfie with.
• Something guests will remember from their visit.
• Align with The Bloc’s mission and values.
• Makes sense with our combination of retailers.
• Fits the Bloc’s personality.
• Not political or controversial.
• Fills the space on a scale that is appropriate for pictures.
Proposal Requirements
• Samples of your previous work.
• Your biography.
• A sketch of the proposed art.
• An artist statement describing the art.
Process
• Follow guidelines and proposal requirements and submit to bloc@dogandaduck.com
by March 10, 2023.
• Artist selected to sign a contract with The Bloc
We will have an honorarium of $1,000 for 12 designs that will be showcased at The Bloc.
