Barzakh Magazine Call for Submissions: Visual Arts, Prose, and Poetry

Barzakh is currently accepting original art, poetry, and prose submissions for our Winter 2022 issue!  

Genre-specific Guidelines: 

  • Prose (Fiction/Creative Nonfiction/Essay/Criticism) – One single submission including up to 10,000 words total (one piece or multiple shorter pieces). 
  • Poetry – One single submission including up to five poems 
  • Multigenre/Hybrid/Digital Work – One single submission including up to five works 
  • Visual Art – One single submission including up to six pieces. 

Other Guidelines: 

Deadline for submissions: October 31st, 2022.  

You can submit as many as two submissions to Barzakh per reading period. Any submissions after two will not be considered.  

Simultaneous submissions are welcome and encouraged, but please let us know immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere. Be sure to include a brief third-person biography, in a language of your choice, with your cover letter so that we may properly credit your work should it be accepted. Barzakh is currently a non-paying market. 

In the interest of accessibility, we accept submissions by postal mail. If you would like to submit by mail, please send your work to the address below. Typed manuscripts are preferred, but we will also accept handwritten work. Snail mail submissions are always free, but if you would like your manuscript returned to you be sure to include a self-addressed & stamped envelope:
