Frankenthaler Climate Art Awards

On behalf of Asia Society and the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, we are excited to announce the Frankenthaler Climate Art Awards, a new prize open to current visual art MFA students or recent graduates based in the United States.

About the Awards:

Organized in collaboration with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, National Gallery of Art, and The Phillips Collection, with support from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Environmental Defense Fund, the Frankenthaler Climate Art Awards are designed to foster climate change awareness through the imagination and insights of an upcoming generation of visual artists. Selected via a free Open Call launching on January 10, 2022, three winning artists will each receive $15,000 and be honored at an event at the Kennedy Center in April 2022 as part of the programming around Asia Society’s COAL + ICE exhibition. Read the full press release here.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be either currently enrolled in a fine or visual art MFA program in the United States or have graduated from such a program in the past five years (no earlier than 2017). They must reside in the United States. Students currently enrolled in US-based programs who are pursuing their studies remotely due to Covid-19 travel restrictions may be given special consideration.
