Hammer Museum Job Opportunity – Student Educator III (new graduate)

Student Educator III (new graduate)

The Hammer Museum is looking for UCLA graduates from diverse disciplines to serve as Student Educators beginning in September 2021 and working through the 2021-2022 academic year. As the museum’s core teaching staff, Educators lead public and private tours, support family programming, assist with curator walk- throughs, and may contribute to digital education initiatives. They help visitors of all ages make authentic and personally relevant connections to art, one another, and the world through close looking, dialogue, inquiry, and reflection.

Educators participate in a year-long, paid training program that explores special exhibitions and collections, strategies for leading conversations about works of art, and best practices for engaging different audiences in person and digitally. They are responsible for the entire process of creating a tour, from research to execution, lead an average of three to six tours per month, and engage in special projects including developing lesson plans for a variety of grade levels. By serving as Educators, students gain in-depth knowledge about Hammer exhibitions and collections; acquire experience in the museum and education fields; and improve their research, teaching, and communication skills.

As a new graduate Educator, Student Educator III is expected to work independently at a high level of rigor with minimal supervision. As an academic specialist, Student Educator III organizes and disseminates discipline- specific research to peer Educators and the public.

HOURS/DAYS:

Training and work will be conducted in accordance with UCLA’s COVID-19 policies. Applicants must be available to report to work in person but may not need to do so until onsite programs resume.
