Description:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented undergraduate, graduate, or law student to assist the Criminal Justice Program in working on an exciting new juvenile justice know your rights technology project called Knowledge is Power in collaboration with Hack for Los Angeles and Code for America. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to work closely with youth, lawyers, law professors, and coding experts.
The student will be responsible for engaging 3-4 teens/young people in the development of this tool through regular meetings and facilitated learning sessions. The student will be required to attend a weekly meeting with the entire project team. The student will also be responsible for editing and creating content for the know your rights tool, in collaboration with the team. This is a 6-month paid position with the opportunity to extend dependent on acquiring additional funding.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to work under deadline
- Desire to work collaboratively
- Ability to facilitate meetings, particularly meetings with young people
Preferred:
- Spanish language fluency
- Experience with the juvenile justice system
- Experience working with teens/young people
- Experience with website and app design and/or social media communication skills
Note: Ideally, student would be able to work 10 hours per week.
