18th Street Arts is hiring a Sam Francis Oral History Fellow

18th Street Arts Center seeks a part-time, graduate-level media fellow for media production and archiving work around the contemporary art history of Santa Monica. More info can be found here: https://18thstreet.org/employment-opportunities/

As part of our partnership with the Sam Francis Foundation, 18th Street Arts Center will work with the Sam Francis Oral History Archive to provide edited media and storytelling for both of our organizations with a specific focus on the Santa Monica arts community connected to Francis and Lapis Press. This Fellow would oversee the production of 20-30 interview clips that would be added to our Culture Mapping 90404 project, a narrative “Story Table” on our website giving an overview of Sam’s deep influence on the artist community in Santa Monica and beyond, and 2-3 mini-documentaries (5-8 minutes) that would tell the story of the art scene in LA at the time, and Sam’s impact through the words of the artists he mentored and worked with. 18th Street Arts Center would engage in a multi-tier social media and marketing campaign around the release of the videos.

The ideal candidate will be a recent or current graduate student in Art History or media production with video editing, storytelling, and media production skills, as well as a deep commitment to scholarship in this area of research. Facility with Google drive, Adobe Premier, AfterEffects, and WordPress are desired, with facility with ArcGIS a plus (we will provide training as well). Successful candidates will be self-motivated, with the ability to manage complex projects on a deadline, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and thrive in a remote work environment.

Hours will be 10-15 hours per week, to be negotiated, and the project will start towards the end of 2020 and be finalized by June of 2021. The stipend is $5,000 for the full project.

If interested, please submit 1) Cover Letter, 2) Resume, 3) Links to 3 media projects you have produced, with at least 1 video you have personally edited, to our online application form.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
