18TH STREET ARTS CENTER INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT:

 

Become an Intern at 18th Street Arts Center during the school year! We have openings for interns in the events, programs, and communications.

 

18th Street Arts Center’s internships are designed to give students real world professional experience. We offer self-directed creative projects which in the past have included opportunities to curate shows, program events, and publish their own writing in arts publications and in our annual catalogue, and documentary initiatives. Each project depends on the interests of the individual and on the framework of the internship. As such, our interns are given the opportunity to develop their resumes with real accomplishments that have genuine professional impact. These are unpaid volunteer internship (college credit eligible) opportunities.

 

18th Street Arts Center is seeking enthusiastic and motivated university students for various communications, development, and curatorial internships to start in September 2018 continuing through December 2018 (with the possibility for extension).

 

Curatorial Programs Intern: Under the supervision of the Artistic Director, for the fall of 2018 focusing on 18th Street Arts Center’s public programs including exhibitions, panels, events, and publications. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of arts administration and to get first-hand experience working with our Artists in Residence as well as our Artist Lab Residency and exhibition program, and participation in strategic data collection and program review efforts addressing the needs of artists within 18th Street Arts Center and working with adjacent communities.

 

Social Media Intern: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Outreach, the selected candidate will gain valuable social media strategic experience within a professional arts organization. Responsibilities include building and maintaining the Social Media Posting Schedule, which includes performing artist research, gathering information for upcoming events and artists: artist bios, images of artists’ work, crafting posts across social media platforms promoting artists and programming past and present at the Center promoting online audience engagement. Also includes thinking about how to spread the word strategically through online video and images. Please include social media handles that you have maintained in your application. Photography experience is a plus!

 

Development Intern: Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Development Associate, the Development Intern will assist with special events, communications, and support our team in all areas of fundraising. The internship provides a detailed understanding of donor relations, event planning, prospect research and outreach, and fundraising strategy. Intern will gain valuable training and real world experience on NationBuilder and MobileCause platforms.

 

This fall, the Development Intern will have a key role in assisting with 18th Street’s 30th Anniversary events, which includes: a crowdfunding campaign, live performance art festival, and 30th anniversary gala. Responsibilities include assisting with event planning for 30th Anniversary Celebration and Gala, supporting communications with our Crowdfunding Campaign team, and assisting with donor database and donor correspondence.

 

Design Intern: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Outreach the selected candidate will expand their portfolio and gain valuable professional creative experience working with an arts organization on print and digital design. Work on catalogues, artists books, showcards, ads, logos and branding with lots of creative freedom in a collaborative environment. Must be proficient with a widely used design software – Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Sketch, or Invision. Through this internship, the design intern will watch their designs gain lots of audience and traction, will work with a very collaborative staff and dozens of fascinating artists, will pursue their ideas with lots of creative freedom, and will gain valuable professional experience working within an arts organization.
