Call for Visual Artist: Set and costume builder for bicycle touring environmental theater troupe

VISIONARY VISUAL ARTIST WANTED BY BICYCLE TOURING THEATER TROUPE FOR FUTURISTIC, PHYSICAL AND IMMERSIVE THEATER PROJECT

Agile Rascal – a theater troupe that tours innovative new works on bicycles – and is looking to collaborate with a brilliant visual artist/assemblage artist/sculptor to help us develop a distinct “look” on the road and to build a portable theater set out of used and discarded plastic.

ABOUT AGILE RASCAL:

We make inventive, funny and musical plays based on environmental issues that are accessible to audiences of all ages.  We carry our sets, costumes and props on our bicycles.  Learn more about Agile Rascal at: www.AgileRascalTheatre.com

ABOUT OUR NEXT PROJECT:

For our next project, we are touring the state of Florida in the winter of 2019, with plans to create a piece to also take to Europe in 2020.  For this project, we are busting out of the box with the premise of being a touring theater troupe in the future that travels on bicycles due to the lack of petroleum-based transport and that utilizes available discarded materials for their costumes and set.  We will devise our play over the course of a five week January/February residency in Florida and will tour it through the state in February/March.

ABOUT THE SET:

We are looking for a bad ass artist who can build us stunning costume pieces and a set from used materials (possibly from discarded inner tubes from the many waterparks in Florida?) that can be carried on trailers behind our bicycles and inflated with a bike pump prior to each show.

As we will be developing the setting and story for the play during our residency, ideally our visual artist would join us in Florida to build the costumes and set in creative collaboration with our play-making.

This promises to be an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively across disciplines to create a beautiful, fully immersive and portable universe, while at the same time drawing attention to the flagrant wastefulness of our planet’s resources.

FUNDING:
We are currently applying for funding through grants, donations and sponsorship.  Certainly your materials would be paid for and ideally we will be able to pay you for your time and artistry as well.  If this is a fruitful endeavor, there’s lot of opportunity for collaboration on future projects and tours.
