CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – GLAMFA Satellite Show Transpose 2018

Team GLAMFA is pleased to announce that this year we are doing the first ever Satellite Show: Transpose. This show will take place at ESXLA (East Side International) http://www.eastsideinternational.com/. We’ve put together a call for submissions which is now open! The submissions will be juried by Kristina Newhouse, curator at the University Art Museum at CSU Long Beach. The show will be curated based on the prompt below.

Abstract

Simultaneous to the flood of confusion created by the media, we have a generation of creatives that, regardless of their medium, derive their concerns and inspiration through a technological lens. The artists are making work in the context of – the increase of political power that influences the decline of rights amongst minorities and women. Their work is about transformation, emphasizing on issues of immigration, labor and privilege, surveillance, identity, body politics and vulnerability. Taking on the current political climate head on, each artist responds with propositions that carry marxist and psychoanalytical undertones, in an attempt to re-invent the powers that be and re-imagine new realities.

The Fine Arts Roundtable (FAR), a collective of Cal State University Long Beach MFA and MA students, present the 1st ever GLAMFA Satellite Show: Transpose. This exhibition is complimentary to the annual GLAMFA exhibition. It features both GLAMFA alumni in conjunction with CSULB alumni and current grads. The show will be juried by Kristina Newhouse, curator at the University Art Museum.

While we pride ourselves on the tradition of hosting the annual GLAMFA within the CSULB galleries, the aim of the GLAMFA satellite show is to have a more engaged presence within the Los Angeles art community. Therefore, this year’s satellite exhibition will be shown at the East Side International Gallery between February 25th and April 7th, 2018. We invite you to submit your work for jury selection.
