“Welcome to Kv(art)irnik – a new creative space in LA made by artists for artists. More specifically, made by two artsy international girls to give you the best underground art experience in the city.

In our space, we’re bringing back the good old traditions of underground apartment exhibits in Eastern Europe (hence the name, iykyk), meaning –

*radical openness to all art in every form

*community of art folks from around LA

*exclusive and tasteful openings with attention to every detail

Each Kvartirnik = one apartment + one night show + one performance + cool people + cool art”

Upcoming Exhibit – KAOS Theory: The Afrokosmic Media Arts of Ben Caldwell

Thursday, October 10th, 2024

(Los Angeles, CA) — The California African American Museum (CAAM) and Art + Practice (A+P) announce the presentation of a retrospective highlighting the work of media arts innovator and community leader Ben Caldwell. The multimedia exhibition KAOS Theory: The Afrokosmic Media Arts of Ben Caldwell will be on view October 12, 2024–March 8, 2025 at A+P in Leimert Park.

Born in 1945 in New Mexico, Ben Caldwell is a dreamer from the desert who spent his youth gazing at the sky and watching his grandfather project films at a local movie theater. After being drafted and serving in the Vietnam War, Caldwell shed his gun for a camera and eventually landed in Los Angeles to pursue an MFA in film at UCLA, coming of age within the groundbreaking LA Rebellion film movement of the 1960s to 1980s.

Working closely with other Black filmmakers and educators, Caldwell envisioned cinema as an instrument that could heal and emancipate. In 1984, he opened KAOS Network, the media arts hub that has helped steward Leimert Park Village’s traditions of Black artistry, fellowship, and love for over four decades.

UCLA CPR/FA Program

Tuesday, October 8th, 2024

Love to teach? Passionate about saving lives? Interested in emergency medicine? WE’RE RECRUITING!

The SWC CPR & First Aid Program at UCLA is a committee under USAC’s Student Wellness Commission. Our goal is to curb the rising trend of increasing prehospital deaths around the nation by teaching basic life-saving skills to community members. Our program’s instructors are a team of dedicated UCLA undergraduates of all majors, certified by the American Heart Association to teach Heartsaver CPR and First Aid, as well as Basic Life Support (BLS).

While we usually spend fall teaching in-person courses, we will instead be focusing this quarter on the teaching and leadership development of our new instructors in addition to welcoming and integrating them into our CPR family. We are excited to show y’all what the #cprlove is all about!❤️⚡️
