Description

EAOP is designed to help students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for college admission. Under the direct supervision of, and with training from, full time EAOP staff, Bruin Advisors work at assigned school sites located in East LA, South LA, West LA, or Pasadena (list of schools we service). Bruin Advisors will be required to learn and know college admission requirements, financial aid resources, and how to advise high school students. Responsibilities include 9-12th grade academic advising, financial aid application assistance, UC/CSU/CC/Private college application support, public speaking, and more. 

Qualifications 

Must have reliable transportation. Work study is preferred, but not a requirement. Must be able to work some Saturday events and evenings. Applicants must have interpersonal skills necessary to work with students in grades 9-12, counselors, school administrators, and parents. Experience in working with a diverse population is preferred. Hired applicants must pass a criminal background check and TB test, as well as comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. Flexible class schedule needed. Must be available a minimum of 1-2 days per week (M-F) between the hours of 8am-3pm.

UCLA BruinCorps

UCLA BruinCorps is a tutoring outreach program that hires work-study students to provide tutoring across the greater Los Angeles area in elementary, middle schools and high schools. Our tutors provide in-class or after school tutoring in English/Language Arts or Math in one-on-one or small group settings.  Our mission is to not only give back to the Los Angeles community, but also to foster a sense of commitment to community service and provide civic engagement and leadership opportunities for UCLA undergraduate students. Through service and professional development opportunities, UCLA BruinCorps develops student leaders on campus.

Painting Assistant for Artist Studio

An artist’s studio located in El Sereno, Los Angeles is looking for painters to assist with production of large-scale ( 5-10 ft tall) oil paintings. The position is freelance/contracted, we’re currently looking for a 3-month commitment (October – December) with possibility for a longer-term employee position thereafter. Scheduling is flexible, minimum 2 days/week, beginning with a paid trial period. Studio operating hours are Mon – Fri, 10am – 6pm.

Responsibilities:

– Communicate with Artist, Studio Manager, and Head Assistant to agree on painting method and final result, adapt to feedback throughout process

– Produce paintings in accordance with Artist’s desired methods and timelines

– Set up painting station, clean station after use, maintain organization of studio materials 

– Maintain discretion about studio operations and follow studio policies regarding communication, safety, and cleanliness

Requirements:

– Several years experience with oil painting

– Technical proficiency with photo-realistic rendering, detailed landscape painting, and precise linework

– Comfortable with large-scale paintings, between 5-10 ft tall. 

– Self-sufficient, able to work for several hours at a time without direct supervision

– Ability to incorporate feedback and adjust painting style accordingly

Rate begins at $22/hr, negotiable commensurate to experience

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Hammer Museum is looking for UCLA graduates from diverse disciplines to serve as Student Educators beginning in September 2022 and working through the 2022-2023 academic year. As the museum’s core teaching staff, Educators lead public and private tours in which visitors of all ages make authentic and personally relevant connections to art, one another, and the world through close looking, dialogue, inquiry, and reflection. Educators also support family programming and may contribute to digital education initiatives.

Educators participate in a year-long, paid training program that explores special exhibitions and collections, strategies for leading conversations about works of art, and best practices for engaging different audiences in person and digitally. They are responsible for the entire process of creating a tour, from research to execution, lead an average of three to six tours per month, and engage in special projects including developing lesson plans for a variety of grade levels. By serving as Educators, students gain in-depth knowledge about Hammer exhibitions and collections; acquire experience in the museum and education fields; and improve their research, teaching, and communication skills.

As a new graduate Educator, Student Educator III is expected to work independently at a high level of rigor with minimal supervision. As an academic specialist, Student Educator III organizes and disseminates discipline specific research to peer Educators and the public.
