The Hammer Museum Student Educator Openings (Undergrad)

Student Educator (Undergraduate)
SALARY: $16 hourly

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Hammer Museum is looking for UCLA undergraduates from diverse disciplines
to serve as Student Educators beginning in September 2022 and working through the 2022-2023 academic year.
As the museum’s core teaching staff, Educators lead public and private tours in which visitors of all ages make
authentic and personally relevant connections to art, one another, and the world through close looking,
dialogue, inquiry, and reflection. Educators also support family programming and may contribute to digital
education initiatives.

Educators participate in a year-long, paid training program that explores special exhibitions and collections,
strategies for leading conversations about works of art, and best practices for engaging different audiences in
person and digitally. They are responsible for the entire process of creating a tour, from research to execution,
lead an average of three to six tours per month, and engage in special projects including developing lesson plans
for a variety of grade levels. By serving as Educators, students gain in-depth knowledge about Hammer
exhibitions and collections; acquire experience in the museum and education fields; and improve their research,
teaching, and communication skills.

HOURS/DAYS: 3-8 hrs/week depending on tour schedule (3 office hours each week scheduled between MonFriday 10am-6pm, trainings from 4-6pm every other Friday, plus additional weekday and weekend tour times, as
scheduled). Appointment starts mid-September and will run for the full academic year; option to renew.

Training and work will be conducted in accordance with UCLA’s COVID-19 policies. Applicants must be available
to report to work in person but may occasionally work remotely.

REQUIREMENTS:

● Registered UCLA undergraduate students only. Preference for rising sophomores and juniors who may
be able to continue the position for multiple academic years.
● Interest in culture, arts, or nonprofits.
