Call for Artists – Dashew Center

Friday, March 8th, 2019

The Dashew Center launched the Art & Writing Collective earlier this quarter. We meet every other Wednesday in the Dashew Center lobby. Each time we meet we do a creative warm-up activity and include time for students to work on their individual creative projects, collaborate, and spend time with each other. We’ve also done student-led group activities such as printmaking. Our hope is that this ongoing drop-in space will help international students explore their creative side and meet new people.

By the end of Spring Quarter, we have an additional goal of designing an online international art & writing magazine (similar to UCLA Beat).

Our Call for Entries form is now live!: https://tinyurl.com/dashew-art-writing-submission.

Submissions can be from anyone who identifies with the UCLA international community and can be anything visual art or creative writing. Deadline is March 22nd, 2019.

Looking for Student Artist

Monday, March 4th, 2019

Dear Student,

My name is Gordon and I’m a volunteer at the UCLA Health System. I’m looking for a student to create a birthday present for my 23 year old son (possibly the same for my 25 year old son). I’m envisioning the following:

A portrait(s) either in paint or drawing (pen, pencil, etc.). Depending on cost, it could be up to 4 portraits on one media reflecting different ages during his lifetime (Baby, adolescent, older teen, young adult/today) or a single portrait. I would provide the photo(s), you can create the interpretation or make it an exact duplicate. I look to your creative mind. The piece should be no larger than 36 x 30. I think you get the idea of what I’m basically looking for, but if you’d like to propose something similar/unique to my idea, I’m all ears.

I would like to see some of your great work to get a sense of your style.

Thanks so much, Gordon
