At the University of Chicago, we believe art is a cultural product, and as such, we encourage students to explore the specific artistic concerns pertinent to their work, as well as relevant theoretical, social and historical issues.
Our MFA student body is comprised of artists working in sculpture, photography, painting, installation, performance, video and new media. Students are expected to work with all faculty, whose expertise cross a number of disciplines. We believe that art should not be an isolating activity and that students/artists benefit from the cross-fertilization of daily contact with people working across different media and dealing with similar sets of issues.
The University of Chicago Department of Visual Arts will be hosting a virtual open house for prospective students on Thursday, November 21 at 2:00 PM CST.
During this session we will provide an overview of the MFA in Visual Arts program and answer questions about graduate study and the graduate application process at the University of Chicago.
