UCLA Expressive Movement Initiative

Expressive Movement Initiative (EMI) is a UCLA student organization that teaches free weekly dance classes to children with disabilities, and we are currently recruiting students who are passionate about working with children and eliminating the stigma around disabilities to join this Spring Quarter! We welcome anyone with OR without previous dance experience! All new recruits will receive one quarter of training before officially teaching.

For volunteers who would like to teach, classes are held once a week on Zoom for 1 hour on Mondays 5-6 PM, Wednesdays 5-6 PM, or Fridays 4-5 PM depending on your availability. However, volunteers are more than welcome to teach more than one class! As an older buddy, you are paired with a younger buddy to teach one-on-one each week. At the end of the quarter, we put on a very fun showcase for other families and dancers to watch. In addition to weekly classes, we have 2-3 evening general meetings every quarter and socials/events for team bonding 🙂

Alternatively, volunteers who are not interested in teaching during a certain quarter(s) can opt to be EMI crew members instead and help out with general meetings, community outreach, fundraisers, seminars, and more! More information about our program can be found on our Linktree (link below).
