What is the Central Valley Project?
The Central Valley Project is a student organization that mentors high school students from California’s Central Valley. A majority of the Central Valley is extremely rural, and students from this area often attend under-resourced and under-funded schools, leaving them feeling discouraged to pursue higher education. Through twice a month visits to the Central Valley, we make sure that these underrepresented individuals have the toolkit necessary to enter and succeed in college. We host workshops, presentations, panels, and college tours for these students to demystify the idea of higher education and educate them on topics such as mental health, FAFSA, scholarships, and more. At UCLA, we are an inclusive and tight-knit community, we do fun and relaxing socials, activities, and retreats to build friendships and kinships with everyone.
