The Institute for Sustainable Development, as a part of the Together for LA Collaborative (TFLA), is calling for LA university students and cinematic artists to submit videos telling the COVID-19 stories of local small businesses.
Students are encouraged to interview and collect footage from 1-5 small businesses in LA City and/or LA County, specifically those that are women- and diverse-owned, on their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as their successes, struggles, responses, and solutions. Topic ideas are listed below.
- The COVID-19 story of a small business succeeding in a vulnerable/at-risk community
- Economic recovery story of a neighborhood
- A community’s success story that others can learn from
- Calling attention to a business or neighborhood that is still struggling to recover
- And other topics as appropriate
Students can work in teams or individually, but only one submission per team lead is permitted.
Please indicate on the submission form that all video participants have consented to their participation and the use of their likeness in Together for LA marketing and materials.
Video submissions are limited to 2-4 minutes and must be in mp4 format.
Non-English submissions are welcome, though English subtitles are required.
Selection and Awards Process
A jury consisting of representatives from the Together for LA Steering Committee will judge and evaluate submissions. The best submissions will be posted on the ISD YouTube channel and awarded a special feature by Together for LA.
Up to four jury prizes of $2,500 are available.
A $5,000 prize will be awarded to the video with the most views, as counted on YouTube, by the end of the competition in May 2022. Team members are encouraged to publicize their videos on the internet, social media, etc.
