1 Student at a Time (1ST) student-led mutual aid fund

1 Student at a Time (1ST) is a student-led organization whose mission is to support college students, particularly those in greatest need. 1ST was founded in May 2020 by a group of students and faculty at UCLA to address humanitarian crises amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically focusing on housing, health, higher education, and food security.

1ST is initiating a student-led mutual aid fund as a communal financial resource for UCLA students experiencing hardships due to COVID-19. The funds will be raised through a grassroots campaign by classmates, alumni, faculty, and other members of our community. We are a resource for covering expenses that cannot be met by other sources provided by UCLA. For information regarding our fundraising and redistribution process, please refer to this document.

We are emailing you today because we are trying to engage as many students as possible to help us reach our fundraising goal of $10,000. If you could please forward this email or make an announcement to students to help us advocate for our fellow students, we would greatly appreciate it. We would like students to join us in advocating for their peers and fundraising with us. For students who would like to get involved, they can look at our tool kit or email us at 1st.lainitiative@gmail.com. To donate, here is a link to our GoFundMe: https://bit.ly/UCLA-Solidarity-Fund and our Venmo is @UCLA-Solidarity-Fund.

Students experiencing hardships can request funding by filling out our request form that will be released on 8/15/2020. Their request will be voted on by 1ST volunteers and we will fulfil as many requests as possible.

If you have any questions, please reach out to 1 Student at a Time by emailing us at 1st.lainitiative@gmail.com. Thank you for your kind support.
