Adams State University Rare A.I.R. Program

APPLICATION DEADLINE  – March 1, 2020

Adams State is located in a high-altitude valley in south central Colorado. Launched in the fall of 2018, the Adams State University Art, Theatre and Music Departments initiated an Artist in Residency program that brings artists, from all disciplines, to campus for long and short term stays. This program presents visual and performing artists with an opportunity to complete projects, spark new ideas, or collaborate with students and the community.

Residents receive:

  • Fully furnished housing for the duration of the residency. Housing consists of a two-bedroom, one bathroom, modest apartment on campus. Each room has a twin bed, nightstand, and a private closet. Laundry is off-site and parking is free. The apartment is shared by multiple rotating residents so we do not offer space for children, spouse/partner, friends at this time.
  • Complimentary use of the University fitness facilities.
  • 7 am – 2 am access to creative facilities such as the fine art studios, recording studio, computers, pianos, maker space, etc. Residents have a key to access most facilities however, there are minimal restrictions to access in specific areas that require residents to communicate their needs and plan ahead for access outside of regular office hours and weekends.
  • There are opportunities to collaborate with faculty and observe classes. However, please be mindful that Rare A.I.R. is part of an active University community. Student needs and faculty obligations are our first priority. This residency is best suited for individuals that are very self-reliant and independent.
  • A feature on the A.I.R. program website while on campus and a permanent link in the program archive.
  • A dedicated student intern/assistant that is available on-call 24/7.
  • Free Wifi access across campus.

Accepted Residents Agree:

  • To have a phone or other direct means of contact while on campus.
  • To provide an event during or at the conclusion of the residency such as a recitation, exhibition, performance, or workshop.
  • We welcome (but do not require) residents leave a creative item/found treasure/memento as part of the collection in the residency housing. We also encourage residents to leave comments/reflections in the program guestbook.

At this time, there is no additional funding to support travel to and from the residency. Residents are responsible for all additional costs related to their stay.
