18th Street Arts Center Culture Mapping 90404 Intern

REPORTS TO: Director of Communications & Outreach

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 3-month commitment of 10 hours per week. Schedule is flexible.

LOCATION: Santa Monica, CA. Partial telecommuting.

COMPENSATION: Volunteer. College credit possible; check with your academic advisor to make arrangements

The Culture Mapping 90404 Intern will primarily focus on editing interviews and uploading descriptions and data to the map. The intern will be trained in editing by our video editor Jeny Amaya and will also be trained on uploading information to ArcGIS/ESRI, our website interface. The intern will also support the Project Manager in developing themed tours of the map, supporting our Advisory Council events, and brainstorming ideas for how to archive the map’s raw data and future caretaking of the map. The intern will review archival material and assist with digitizing relevant material to add to the map. Lastly, the intern will assist with different 18th Street events and other artist projects as needed and based on their availability.

JOB OVERVIEW: Facilitated by 18th Street Arts Center, Culture Mapping 90404 is a community produced map highlighting the history and cultural assets of the Pico neighborhood. Cultural assets are people, places, events and organizations, both past and present, that serve as cultural anchors within this community. The map is available at culturemapping90404.org, with a Spanish language version at espanol.culturemapping90404.org.
