Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Art Education or Ed.D. in Education with an Art emphasis
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2018
  • Demonstrated potential for successful college-level teaching
  • Evidence of comprehensive knowledge of Art Education theory and pedagogy
  • Demonstrated potential for developing a strong record of professional achievement in research, scholarly and creative activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching Art Education theory and pedagogy at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with/teaching new technologies and new media in Art Education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching community-based practices and global issues in Art Education.
  • Evidence of comprehensive knowledge of contemporary art.
  • Demonstrated excellence for conducting scholarly research in the field.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing a record of scholarly publication and/or exhibitions.
  • Demonstrated potential to show leadership and ability to serve as Head of the Art Education program.

Duties

Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate level courses in Art Education. Depending on the candidate’s specialty, teach other courses which may include: Art, Adolescence and the Child; Cross Cultural Perspectives in Art Education; Art Disciplines and New Technologies; Perspectives in Contemporary Art Education; Educational Practices in the Art Museum; Aesthetic Theories and Art Education; and Special Studies in Art Education. Direct graduate student research projects and serve on graduate student committees. Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop the Art Education curriculum. Assist with scheduling, and supervise work study or student assistants. Advise students about professional career goals and opportunities. Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community as appropriate. Responsible for serving as Head of the Art Education program on a rotating basis. Maintain an ongoing record of research, scholarly and creative activities.

  • Applicants may also include: copies of performance evaluations from prior teaching, and other documentation regarding instruction and instructionally related activity; copies of publications and/or images of artwork and student artwork; or other documentation of research, scholarly and creative activities (If you would like professional materials returned, please include a self-addressed envelope with adequate postage and instructions)
  • Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form, three current letters of recommendation, and an official transcript

A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
