The Department of Art, Architecture + Art History at the University of San Diego invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin September 2018. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

We seek an accomplished visual artist with the ability to teach from a deep knowledge of both darkroom and digital photographic processes and technologies. S/he would be capable of expanding an established photography program, and be an active, engaged member of the department and university communities. Candidates must be able to teach from a demonstrated familiarity with photo history and theory, especially with critical issues in contemporary photography. A commitment to teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses, from introductory to advanced studios, is important, with prior teaching experience at the college/university level required. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of exhibitions and professional accomplishments.

The Department of Art, Architecture + Art History of the College of Arts and Sciences promotes academic excellence with small class sizes, seminar-style teaching, faculty-student collaboration and close mentoring. We are especially interested in candidates who can devise innovative strategies to teach in a pluralistic and multi-disciplinary department.

 

MFA or equivalent is required. Applications should include a letter delineating professional and teaching interests, curriculum vitae, samples of creative and students’ work, syllabi of two courses you would like to teach at the University of San Diego (one introductory course in Photography and one advanced undergraduate studio) and contact information for three recommenders. Creative work and students’ work should be submitted either entirely in PDF form, or via a URL included in a PDF. No email submissions will be accepted.
