Armory Center for the Arts Paid Summer Studio Internship

Basic information:
Each summer, the Armory offers more than 250 classes in a variety of media, for all levels of ability, for children ages 3-11, youth ages 12-18 and adults. All classes are taught by the Armory’s faculty of professional artists. Under the guidance of the Manager of Studio Programs, Grace Lacques, the Studio Intern will assist with the daily implementation of this diverse and fast paced summer art program.

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in an undergraduate college program studying fine art, early childhood education, or a related field. Candidates with experience in customer service, childcare and working in educational settings are encouraged to apply. Ideal skill sets include: well organized, attention to detail, excellent communicator, proficiency in Excel and an affinity for working with children, youth and parents.

Internship dates and hours are as follows: Monday thru Friday, (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) from June 19 -August 25, 2017. This is a ten week internship. Hours and dates are not flexible.

Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Studio Intern will include assisting the Studio Manager, the Studio Assistant, and 40 faculty members, in the daily management of this very large and highly attended program. The duties include:
• Supervising participants ages 3-11 and leading activities in breaks between art classes
• Assisting in supervision of youth workers and volunteers for classes
• Performing administrative duties including maintaining a class schedule and sign in sheets for teaching artists, and compiling and organizing program statistics
• Assisting the Studio Manager in maintaining an organized, clean and active studio space
• Additional duties as assigned

Supervision and Training
The Studio Intern will report directly to the Manager of Studio Programs, who will be responsible for the intern’s supervision and training. The Studio internship will offer the selected student the opportunity to:
• Receive hands on experience with the Armory’s education and artistic program staff, plus gain valuable experience in arts administration and arts education
• Interact with the professional teaching artists who comprise the Armory’s faculty
• Work with diverse populations who participate in the programs
• Gain understanding of and experience in the daily workings of a multidisciplinary, community-based arts organization
