The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Curatorial Intern will assists the MAK Center Director, Exhibitions and Programs Manager, and Education and Engagement Coordinator with 2023 exhibition, residency and public programming, including the exhibitions Seeking Zohn, Print Ready Drawings, and MAK Center’s annual exhibition series Garage Exchange and Final Project.
The MAK Center for Art and Architecture is a contemporary, experimental, multi-disciplinary center for art and architecture headquartered in three significant architectural works by the Austrian-American architect R.M. Schindler. Offering a year-round schedule of exhibitions and events, the MAK Center presents programming that challenges conventional notions of architectural space and relationships between the creative arts.
The Curatorial Intern will work closely with staff to review timelines and duties. Weekly meetings with all staff will ensure that progress toward goals is consistent with expectations and that the Intern is fully integrated into the daily and near-term activities of the organization. MAK Center staff will serve as career mentors to the Intern during the summer and will be available to answer questions, to discuss career goals, education options, or museum and arts management issues.
Some requirements are, but are not limited to:
- Background or expressed interest in contemporary art and architecture
- Highly responsive and follows through on deadlines
- Self-initiated and able to work in collaborative team setting
- Able to communicate and interact well with others
- Excellent grammar, writing, and organizational skills
- Must be able to perform art research and assist in managing exhibition timelines.
- Be of a group underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent
- Be currently enrolled as full-time undergraduates
- Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County
- Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop Knowledge, Google Workspace
