Future Generation Art Prize 2023 – Open Call

The open call for the 7th edition of the Future Generation Art Prize 2023 is now open!

Future Generation Art Prize is an award for emerging artists launched in 2009 by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. As an international contemporary art prize for the young generation of artists, it aims to discover, recognize and provide long-term institutional support to the participants.

The last edition of the prize in 2021 received 11,700 applications from over 200 countries, and its 21 shortlisted artists participated in a special exhibition in Kyiv. The Main prize winner Aziz Hazara (Afghanistan) received $100,000 and the Special Prizes winners Agata Ingarden (Poland), Mire Lee (South Korea), and Pedro Neves Marques (Portugal) shared $20,000. Among the other finalists in the exhibition were Alex Baczynski-Jenkins (UK), Wendimagegn Belete (Ethiopia), Minia Biabiany (Guadeloupe), Ho Rui An (Singapore), Rindon Johnson (USA), Bronwyn Katz (South Africa), Lap-See Lam (Sweden), Paul Maheke (France), Lindsey Mendick (UK), Henrike Naumann (Germany), Pedro Neves Marques (Portugal), Frida Orupabo (Norway), Andres Pereira Paz (Bolivia), Teresa Solar (Spain), Trevor Yeung (China), and artist collectives Calla Henkel & Max Pitegoff (USA), Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei (Ukraine), and Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings (UK). 

In January 2023, the open call for the 7th edition of the Future Generation Art Prize was launched. The exhibition of the artists shortlisted for the Award will be on view at PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv in October 2023 and in conjunction with the 60th Venice Biennale in April 2024. The International Jury will award one main prize of $100,000 and one special prize of $20,000.

There is a standard online application through which the artists are invited to submit the materials before the 30th of April, 2023. Per the requirements of the prize, please remember that the applicants must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.

The Future Generation Art Prize is widely acknowledged as a springboard for emerging talent. Lynette Yiadom Boakye won the Prize in 2012, before going on to be shortlisted for the Turner Prize and a highly successful solo show at the Serpentine Gallery in London in 2015. The winner of the first edition of the Prize, Cinthia Marcelle, represented Brazil at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. Previous main prize winners also include Dineo Seshee Bopape, winning in 2017, who represented South Africa at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. The shortlisted artists for Future Generation Art Prize 2021, Teresa Solar, Mire Lee, and Bronwyn Katz participated in the main program at the 59th Venice Biennale, and the special prize winner Pedro Neves Marques represented Portugal with the solo exhibition.
