The Fine Arts Roundtable (FAR), an organization of graduate students at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), invites SoCal MFA students, currently enrolled or recent Spring 2022 graduates, to apply to our open call for the 18th annual Greater Los Angeles MFA (GLAMFA) exhibition. Our mission in hosting an annual series of events through GLAMFA is to foster new relationships, build community among the MFA programs in the greater Los Angeles area, and to celebrate our potential to investigate, create, uplift, and heal with the power of the arts.
“Accountability, Responsibility, and Sustainability,” is the GLAMFA 2023 theme. The SoCal MFA community is invited to submit art that expresses what it means to reclaim power personally and publicly with considerate and intentional action. Applicants are asked to demonstrate how one’s artistic practice relates to and directly impacts progress and change. Topics to consider may include the following: a response to the lack of leadership in our governments; the consistent and worsening disparities based on class systems; specific social concerns related to the environment, agriculture, mental health, BIPOC rights, Indigenous rights, women’s rights, and LGBTQ+ rights; and how acts of care are activism. Applicants are encouraged to submit current works in any media along with installation and performance proposals.
