Teaching Opportunities at LA’s Department of Rec and Parks

LA’s Department of Recreation and Parks is hiring for two positions: Recreation Instructor for Older Adults Programming and LA Kids Art Instructor.

Recreation Instructor – Older Adults Programming

Available Hours: 12-20 hours per week; : $19.11 Per Hour (Pay rate may be subject to change)

Provide quality instruction in one or more of the following class genres:

  • Active – Aerobics, Zumba, Yoga, Tai Chi, Chair Exercise, Self Defense
  • Art – Drawing, Painting, Chalk/ Pastels, Clay, Jewelry Making, Mixed Media Art, Pottery, Scrapbooking
  • Dancing – Line Dancing, Tap
  • Literature – Creative Writing, Poems
  • Music – Singing, Song Writing
  • Sewing – Crotchet, Knitting, Needle Point

Qualifications:

Should have experience instructing and/or implementing instruction to senior citizens. Must have experience at a high school, collegiate, and/or professional level in one or more of the above genres. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to various parts of Los Angeles. (Instructors hired will have the ability to indicate specific geographic work areas.) Must be willing to wear a mask during work hours. Ability to teach in multiple disciplines/genres is desired. Ability to effectively teach senior citizens and act as a role model is required. Ability to be punctual, autonomous, self-governing, and motivated towards excellence is required. Ability to promote classes in a community
context through word of mouth, networking with location recreation centers, delivering and distributing flyers to senior centers, organizations, and local businesses, and effectively communicating with community members is required.

Job Location:

Various Parks/ Recreation Centers throughout the city of Los Angeles:
the Valley, Northeast LA, Lincoln Heights, Boyle Heights, Downtown, South LA, Watts,
Wilmington/Torrance/Harbor City, Venice Beach, Hollywood, Korea Town, and City of LA facilities in the
areas in between. (Instructors hired will be able to choose service area preferences.)

LA Kids Art Recreation Instructor

Available Hours: 12-20 hours per week; : $19.11 Per Hour (Pay rate may be subject to change)

Provide instruction in one or more of the following class genres:

  • Painting (Acrylics &/or Watercolors)
  • Chalk/Pastels
  • Drawing
  • Origami
  • Anime/Cartooning
  • Clay
  • Mixed Media Art
  • Sculpting
  • Animation
  • Jewelry Making

Qualifications:

Must have experience instructing and/or implementing instruction to youth. Must have experience in creating art at a high school, collegiate, and/or professional level in one or more of the above genres. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to various parts of Los Angeles. (Instructors hired will have the ability to indicate specific geographic work areas.) Must be available to work at least three days per week from 3pm to 7:30pm. Possible
sporadic Saturdays may also be needed. Must be willing to wear a mask during work hours. Ability to teach in multiple disciplines/genres is desired. Ability to effectively teach youth and act as a role model is required. Ability to be punctual, autonomous, self-governing, and motivated towards excellence is required. Ability to promote classes in a community context through word of mouth, networking with location recreation centers, delivering and distributing flyers to schools, organizations, and local businesses, and effectively communicating with community members,
especially parents is required.
